Disk brakes are a type of brake that uses disks (rotors) to create friction. The disk brake was invented by Frederick William Lanchester in 1902 and patented in 1904. They were first used on a production car by Lancia in 1906.

Disk brakes are a type of brake that use disks (circular plates) to stop a vehicle. Brake pads, which are attached to the caliper, press against the disk to slow the vehicle down. Disk brakes are important because they provide good stopping power and can last for a long time.


Opposed Piston Type:


The opposed piston type is a method to convert linear motion into circular motion using only one piston. The pistons move in opposition, i.e., they move in the same direction but at different speeds. This creates the braking effect by reducing the speed of both pistons at the same time instead of just one as in other braking systems such as drum and disc brakes where there are two separate pads for each wheel that can be operated independently to provide independent braking on each wheel.


Floating Caliper Type:


Floating caliper is a device that acts as both, a brake and an oil pump. It is used in disk brakes to eliminate the need for additional mechanism to push the fluid from one chamber to another. The floating caliper has two pistons which are suspended by means of rubber hoses or tubes from a centrally mounted master cylinder.
