Market Overview:
The global doubly fed wind converter market is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for renewable energy sources across the globe. Additionally, government initiatives and regulations supporting the deployment of renewable energy are also fueling the growth of this market. The global doubly fed wind converter market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, it is divided into air-cooled and liquid-cooled converters. Air-cooled converters are more popular than liquid-cooled ones as they are less expensive and easier to maintain. On the basis of application, it is classified into land and marine applications. Land applications accounted for a larger share in 2017 owing to higher installations in countries such as China, India, Germany, Spain etc., However; marine applications are expected to grow at a higher rate duringthe forecast period due rising demand from countries such as Japanand South Korea .Regionally speaking; North America held majority share in 2017 followed by Europe .
Product Definition:
A doubly fed induction converter (DFIG) is a type of electrical machine used to convert variable-speed AC electrical power into fixed-frequency, three-phase AC electricity. It does this by using two rotors with differently pitched windings that are connected together via an inverter.
Air-cooled:
Air-cooled is a heat exchanger that is used to remove the heat from an engine. The most common application of air-cooled unit is in reciprocating engines which are used for industrial purposes. Air-cooled unit can be segmented into two types including surface condenser and jet condenser, depending upon the way it works. In case of surface condenser, there are no moving parts; hence it's called as a cold plate machine.
Liquid-cooled:
The liquid-cooled turbine is a type of wind power generator, which uses moving fluid to generate electricity. The fluid used in these turbines is usually water but can be any other cooling agent as well. It is installed between the main shaft and the generator where it flows through both sides of the generator and then returns to its source.
Application Insights:
The land application segment accounted for the largest share of over 70% in 2017. The air-cooled doubly fed wind converter is widely used in land applications owing to its low cost and easy installation. Land applications are prevalent across various industries such as offshore, oil & gas, and power generation.
The marine application segment is expected to witness the fastest CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 due to rising demand for large capacity turbines from countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia among others which have been investing heavily in renewable energy sources including solar photovoltaic panels and windmills. These types of converters are also used on ships that travel through stormy weather conditions since they can withstand heavy rains without getting damaged or worn out easily compared with other types of FDWCs that use air cooling only (liquid-cooled).
Regional Analysis:
Europe was the leading regional market in 2017 and is anticipated to witness significant growth over the forecast period. The presence of a large number of manufacturers coupled with stringent regulations by various environmental agencies, such as ECHA, are some factors expected to drive the market growth. In addition, increasing offshore wind power projects in countries such as Germany and U.K., is projected to further propel industry expansion over the next eight years.
Asia Pacific is estimated to be one of the fastest-growing regions owing to growing installations of renewable energy infrastructure across several countries including China, Japan, South Korea & India.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and industrialization in developing countries
- Government policies and regulations supporting renewable energy sources over traditional ones
- Rising prices of fossil fuels which makes wind power more economical
- Technological advancements making wind turbines more efficient
- Growing awareness about the benefits of using renewable energy sources
