An electrolytic process is used to produce copper with a purity of 99.9% or higher. In this process, pure copper cathodes are placed in an electrolyte solution and a direct current is applied. The copper used in everyday life has been extracted from ores through smelting, and it contains impurities that make up for about 20% of the weight of raw material.
