Market Overview:

The global electromagnetic shock absorber market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for passenger cars and commercial vehicles across the globe. Electromagnetic shock absorbers are used in vehicles as a safety feature to reduce the impact of shocks and vibrations on passengers and vehicle components. They are available in two types, namely pure active shock absorbers and semi-active shock absorbers. Pure active shock absorbers are those that use an electric motor to generate force that opposes movement, while semi-active shocks use a hydraulic system with sensors that adjust damping according to road conditions.

Global Electromagnetic Shock Absorber Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

An electromagnetic shock absorber is a device used to protect electronic equipment from damage caused by sudden voltage changes or electrical surges. They are commonly used in power supplies and telecommunications systems. Electromagnetic shock absorbers help keep equipment running smoothly and prevent costly repairs or replacements.

Pure Active Shock Absorber:

Pure active shock absorber is a device that reduces the vibrations or shocks to which an object may be subjected. Pure active shock absorbers are used in various applications including electromagnetic, electrostatic and dynamic (ESD) and impact protection. They can also be used as a protective device for sensitive electronic devices against static charges.

The pure active shock absorber consists of two main parts; namely the diaphragm and the return spring system.

Semi-Active Shock Absorber:

Semi-active shock absorber is a device that reduces the impact of electrical as well as magnetic shocks. It works by converting the energy from the incoming wave into heat. The heat generated by this device is used to warm up an electrolyte, which causes it to expand and contract, thereby reducing the intensity of your shock.

Application Insights:

Passenger cars application segment accounted for the largest share of over 50.0% in 2017. The demand is expected to be high due to increasing sales of passenger vehicles as a result of growing middle-class population, improved employment rate and rising disposable income, especially in emerging markets such as China and India. Moreover, stringent government regulations regarding safety are likely to boost product demand further.

Electromagnetic shocks are majorly experienced during road accidents when drivers or passengers suffer injuries caused by hard impact with another vehicle or with an object outside the car. Such incidents occur more frequently on account of rise in road traffic owing to increase in spending capacity among consumers across the globe coupled with rapid urbanization projects undertaken by governments across countries for developing infrastructure including roads and bridges at a faster pace than before which eventually leads to rise in number of accidents resulting into injuries suffered by drivers & passengers inside vehicles even though they have installed active protection systems (PTS).

Regional Analysis:

The Asia Pacific region accounted for the largest market share in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The presence of key automotive manufacturers, such as Toyota, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Suzuki Motor Corporation and Hyundai Mobis, has resulted in high demand from end-users of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Moreover, rising disposable income coupled with increasing vehicle sales is anticipated to drive the regional market growth over the forecast period.

Europe held a significant share in terms of both volume and revenue owing to stringent safety norms prescribed by regulatory bodies such as ETSI (Electronic Communications System Interference) Directive 2004/42/EC), EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Directive 2014/30/EU), etc. Presence of major automotive OEMs along with technological advancements are projected to augment industry growth during the forecast period.

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles
  • Growing awareness about the benefits of electromagnetic shock absorbers over traditional shock absorbers
  • Rising R&D spending by automotive OEMs to develop new and innovative technologies
  • Proliferation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in automobiles
  • Stringent safety norms by regulatory authorities
