Market Overview:
The global electronic gases market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for semiconductors and other electronic devices. In addition, the growing demand for flat-panel displays is also contributing to the growth of this market. The global electronic gases market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, it is divided into specialty electronic gases and bulk electronic gases. Specialty Electronic Gases are further classified into rare gas mixtures (He-Ne-Ar), inert gas mixtures (N2O4), metalorganic compounds (TiCl4), halogenated hydrocarbons (SF6) etc., while Bulk Electronic Gases are further classified into oxygenates such as CO2 and H2O; nitrogenates such as NH3; carbonates such as CH4; silanes such as SiH4 etc.
Product Definition:
The gases used in electronic equipment are called Electronic Gases. The most common types of electronic gases are argon, helium, and nitrogen.
Specialty Electronic Gases:
Specialty electronic gases are used in semiconductor devices for insulating, cooling or heating functions. They are also used as a carrier gas in various chemical reactions such as dry cleaning of integrated circuits (IC), plating of metal surfaces and cleaning of photoresist. These gases have applications across several end-use industries including electronics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and energy sectors owing to their unique properties such as low thermal conductivity & heat capacity ratio along with high purity quality.
Bulk Electronic Gases:
Bulk electronic gases are used in the manufacturing of electronic gasses such as Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe and Rb. These gases are produced by the thermal decomposition of liquids or compounds and their usage is increasing day by day due to their properties which are different from other conventional gasses. For example; they have low thermal conductivity than air which makes them fit for use in heaters where low thermal conductivity is required.
Application Insights:
Electronic gases are used in various applications such as deposition, etching, doping, lithography. Deposition is the most dominant application of the electronic gases and this trend is expected to continue over the forecast period. The use of these gases in conjunction with other gas substrates enables low-temperature processing for advanced semiconductor devices and integrated circuits.
The growing demand for thin-film coatings from various end-use industries including electronics & semiconductors is expected to drive their usage over the forecast period.
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global market in 2017. The growth of this region can be attributed to the presence of major electronic manufacturing companies such as Micron, Intel Corporation, Texas Instruments Inc., and Fairchild Semiconductor. These players are engaged in research & development activities to develop advanced semiconductor devices with low cost and high efficiency. This has resulted in high demand for electronic gases across North America over the past few years.
Asia Pacific is expected to emerge as a lucrative regional market during the forecast period owing to rapid industrialization coupled with increasing government investments on electronics sector especially in China and India is anticipated to boost industry growth over next eight years or so.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for semiconductor and electronic products
- Growing number of electronics manufacturing companies
- Rising adoption of advanced technology in electronics industry
- Proliferation of portable devices and consumer electronics
- Increasing demand from automotive sector
