Market Overview:

The global emulsion SBR market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X%. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for automotive tires, adhesives & sealants, mechanical goods and industrial rubber parts. Asia Pacific is expected to witness the highest growth during the forecast period owing to the growing automotive industry in countries such as China and India. The global emulsion SBR market has been segmented on the basis of type into cold E-SBR and hot E-SBR. The cold E-SBR segment is projected to account for a larger share of the global emulsion SBR market during 2018–2030. This can be attributed to its properties such as low viscosity, good processability and compatibility with other polymers that make it suitable for use in various applications such as automotive tires, adhesives & sealants, mechanical goods and industrial rubber parts.

Global Emulsion SBR Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

An emulsion is a mixture of one liquid dispersed in another liquid, generally without any chemical reaction between the liquids. Emulsions are very common in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Emulsion SBR is a synthetic rubber that is used as an additive to improve the properties of other polymers. It is particularly useful in improving the tear resistance and abrasion resistance of polymer blends.

Cold E-SBR:

Cold E-SBR is a special type of emulsion styrene butyl rubber (E-SBR) that has been processed to below 25°C. It is used in various applications including tire and footwear, sealants, adhesives, and coating. The growth factor for the market is increasing demand from end-use industries such as construction & building and automotive sectors due to its high performance at low temperatures.

Hot E-SBR:

Hot E-SBR is a special type of cross-linked polymer, which provides unique properties to the emulsion SBR. It has been developed by modifying the existing technology for manufacturing conventional E-SBR. The modification includes using higher temperature in the reaction mixture during synthesis of cross linked polymers and also controlling viscosity with help of shear force. These two factors have helped in increasing efficiency and reducing cost as compared to other processes used for producing E-SBR.

Application Insights:

The global emulsion SBR market is segmented by application into automotive tires, adhesives & sealants, mechanical goods, industrial rubber parts and others. The automotive tire segment accounted for the largest share in 2017 and is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. This can be attributed to increasing production of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles across the globe coupled with stringent regulations regarding fuel efficiency.

SBR offers several advantages including improved performance at high temperatures as compared to natural rubber; reduced rolling resistance; better grip on wet roads; lower level of toxic emissions when burned compared to petroleum-based products; cost reduction due to economies of scale associated with manufacturing using a continuous process rather than a batch process as in case of crude oil based product refining method used till now.

Regional Analysis:

Asia Pacific dominated the global emulsion SBR market in 2016 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The presence of emerging economies such as China, India, and Japan has resulted in an increased demand for tires. This scenario is likely to drive the regional market growth over the forecast period.

The automotive industry is one of the major sectors that heavily rely on tire manufacturing products such as adhesives & sealants and mechanical goods for their production process. Thus, increasing demand from these application industries will propel product sales across Asia Pacific region during the forecast period.

Europe was estimated at USD X million in 2016 owing to high consumption from several major applications including industrial rubber parts, others, automotive tires & tubes coupled with Germany being a key country within it all (pun intended).

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for Emulsion SBR in the automotive industry for manufacturing tires is expected to drive the market growth.
  • Growing demand from construction and infrastructure sector is also anticipated to fuel the market growth over the forecast period.
  • Rising awareness about benefits of using Emulsion SBR in various applications is projected to propel the market growth.
  • Technological advancements in production process of Emulsion SBR are likely to provide new opportunities for market players over the forecast period.
