Nitrogen Based EGR:
Nitrogen Based EGR (Enhanced Gas Recovery) is a process of using nitrogen gas to increase the flow of natural gas. Nitrogen is used as a propellant in this process, which enables it to displace part of the air and form an effective vacuum that draws additional gas into the wellbore. The major factor responsible for increased production from wells with naturally occurring gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide is referred to as Enhanced Gas Recovery orEGR enhanced oil recovery.
Carbon Dioxide Based EGR:
Carbon dioxide basedEGR is a process used to increase the flow of gas in reservoir. It works by increasing the pressure within the reservoir and thus making it easier for oil or natural gas to escape into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide is injected under high pressure along with other gases such as nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen which increases its mobility in comparison to normal carbonic acid.
Application Insights:
The oil and gas industry was the largest application segment in 2016, accounting for over 60% of the total revenue share. The recovery of nitrogen based EGR is used to reduce emissions from natural gas engines when they are operated on low-quality fuel such as natural gasoline or distillates. This technology also eliminates the need for a catalytic converter since it uses nitrogen instead of oxygen as an agent to reduce engine emissions.
Nitrogen-based EGR is majorly used in onshore oil operations where its implementation reduces operating costs by reducing capital expenditure and energy consumption while increasing production rates at lower cost structures. It has been observed that these technologies lead to improved well productivity by lowering operational costs without affecting overall output quality thus making them suitable across all types of reservoirs including tight, shale and coal bed methane along with conventional sources.
