Enteric Disease Testing is the process of detecting and identifying viruses, bacteria, or parasites that can cause intestinal infections. The importance of Enteric Disease Testing is to help identify and treat the infections as quickly as possible to prevent further illness.


C. difficile:


C. difficile is a gram-positive bacteria that normally lives in the gut and intestine. However, when C. difficile grows out of control, it can cause severe diarrhea (enteric disease) which has been referred to as CDI or C Difficulties or Clostridium difficile infection. The incidence rate of this infection is approximately 30 cases per 100,000 population annually with a mortality rate of about 0.3%.


Campylobacteriosis:


Campylobacteriosis is a bacterial infection of the small intestine. The disease is commonly found in animals and can also infect humans, although rare cases have been reported. It generally affects poultry but can also affect cattle and other herbivores. The bacteria are found in soil, water, plants or crops where there has been contact with infected animal dung or waste products from infected birds or animals (such as cats).
