Solution polymerization is a type of polymerization in which the catalyst and monomers are dissolved in a common solvent. The solution then reacts to form solid polymers, which can be cast or extruded as desired.
The most widely used solvents for solution polymerization include aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, chlorobenzene and xylene; aliphatic hydrocarbons such as hexane.
Suspension Polymerization:
Suspension polymerization is a type of emulsion polymerization in which the monomers are suspended in an organic solvent. The suspension is usually made up of two liquids, one being the reactant and other being the catalyst. The process takes place at atmospheric pressure and temperature.
The most commonly used catalysts for suspension polymerization are metal oxides such as aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, etc.
