Market Overview:
The global feed preservative market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for animal-based food products, rising awareness about feed quality and safety, and stringent regulations on food additives. Feed acidifiers are projected to be the fastest-growing type of feed preservatives during the forecast period. The Asia Pacific region is expected to dominate the global feed preservative market during the forecast period.
Product Definition:
A feed preservative is a substance that is added to animal feed in order to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. Feed preservatives are important because they help to keep animals healthy and productive.
Feed Acidifiers:
Feed acidifiers are the substances added to the animal feed in order to maintain its pH level and prevent any type of disease. The most commonly used acids in feed acidifier include lactic acid, formic acid, acetic acid and others. These acids not only maintain proper pH levels but also provide additional benefits such as increased nutrient digestibility, better bone & muscle development along with reduced mortality rates among young animals.
Mold Inhibitors:
Mold inhibitors are chemicals that prevent the growth of mold on various products. They can be natural or synthetic in nature and are used as preservatives to increase their shelf life. The most commonly used mold inhibitors in feed preservative are propiconazole, butylated hydroxytoluene, and methyl-butyl ether.
Application Insights:
The compound feed segment accounted for the largest revenue share of over 40% in 2017. The product is widely used as a preservative against fungal and bacterial growth in compound feeds, which include animal protein sources such as cereals, soybean meal, cottonseed meal and others. Compound feed is an important component of poultry diets that provides essential nutrients to animals including calcium carbonate, vitamin D3 & B12 and zinc oxide & copper sulfate.
Feed premixes are widely used for the prevention of fungal growth in milk powder during its storage at room temperature (16-24°C). Feed premixes are also employed during its production by mixing it with other ingredients such as cereal grains along with additives that prevent mold from growing on or forming part of dairy products produced using the mixture.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global feed preservatives market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The presence of a large number of feed manufacturers coupled with rising demand for animal nutrition products from developing economies such as China, India, and Indonesia is anticipated to drive growth. Furthermore, increasing meat consumption in emerging countries such as Japan and South Korea is likely to have a positive impact on industry growth over the coming years.
The European region accounted for 24% of global revenue share in 2017 owing to high production levels of compound feed additives observed across major livestock producing nations including Russia, Spain, France Germany Italy Poland U.K., Romania Turkey Ukraine Greece among others which resulted into high consumption levels globally especially within Europe region resulting into higher revenue share held by this region globally during same year.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for processed and packaged food products
- Rising awareness about the benefits of using feed preservatives
- Growing demand from developing countries
- Technological advancements in the field of feed preservatives
- Stringent regulations governing the use of feed preservatives
