A femoral venous cannula is a thin, flexible tube inserted through a vein in the groin area (femoral vein) into the larger veins near the heart. The device is used to draw blood or to give fluids and other treatments.


Single-stage:


Single-stage, also known as one-piece flow, is a type of cannula used to drain blood from the femoral vein. It consists of an introducer sheath and a lumen that is attached to the needle. The blood flows through the lumen in single file and then returns into the vessel through another opening at its end.


Two-stage:


The two-stage approach is used to treat a femoral venous cannula. It involves the insertion of an introducer sheath followed by a catheter balloon that is inflated inside the sheath. The inflation of the balloon at the site reduces blood flow in order to occlusion and stents are placed on either side of the catheter for permanent implantation, which provides access to critical arterial veins.
