Market Overview:
The global ferroboron market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for steel and cast iron from various end-use industries, globally. Ferroboron is used as an alloying agent in steel and cast iron production, which enhances the properties of these metals. In addition, the growing automotive industry is also contributing to the growth of the ferroboron market. Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing region during the forecast period owing to rapid industrialization and urbanization in countries such as China and India.
Product Definition:
Ferroboron is a compound made up of iron and boron. It has a variety of applications, including in the production of alloys and as a deoxidizer in steelmaking.
Low Carbon (C¢â€°¤0.05%¯½Å¾0.1%, 9%¯½Å¾25%B):
Low carbon ferroboron is a new term in the market and it has been used for only about two years. It was developed to differentiate between normal (high carbon) and slightly low (carbon below standard) boron levels present in a particular alloy. The slight difference between the two makes it possible to produce special alloys that have properties superior to those of normal high-carbon steel, while at the same time being easier on the eyes than most other steels.
Medium Carbon (C¢â€°¤2.5%, 4%~19%B):
Medium carbon is a form of carbon, which has molecular formula C?2.5H?4. It is also known as peat or lignite and occurs in nature as a result of incomplete combustion of organic materials in forest fires or bushfires. The majority source for production of medium carbon is from biomass (for example, coal-fired power stations).
Application Insights:
The steel application segment led the global ferroboron market in 2017 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of XX% over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing demand for steel from construction, automotive, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors across the globe.
Cast iron applications are expected to witness significant growth over the next six years owing to its rising use in various industries including energy, transportation and building as it has properties such as high melting point (2°C higher than that of pig iron), low carbon content (0.3% maximum) which makes it suitable for gas heaters & furnaces used in hospitals, hotels or commercial buildings among others.
Ferrochrome is an alloy made up of boron with varying amounts of carbon content ranging from 0.5% up to 19%.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global ferroboron market in 2016 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The presence of major steel producers such as Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation in Japan, India's Jain Irrigation and Tata Motors among others are anticipated to drive demand for this product over the forecast period. In addition, growing automotive production mainly due to low labor costs is likely to have a positive impact on industry growth.
The European market was valued at USD X million in 2016 owing to high consumption of iron ore from steel production coupled with stringent environmental regulations by various regulatory bodies such as REACH that has resulted in rising adoption of alternatives for reducing dust emissions during mining operations thus affecting industry growth negatively. However, increasing investments towards research & development activities aimed at producing sustainable products are expected favorably impact industry growth over the next eight years or so.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for ferroboron from the steel and aluminum industries as a deoxidizer and alloying agent.
- Growing demand for ferroboron in the chemical industry as a catalyst and precursor to other chemicals.
- Rising use of ferroboron in the production of high-strength magnets, superconductors, and other advanced materials.
- Growing popularity of ferroboron among battery manufacturers due to its high electrical conductivity and low toxicity.
