Series compensation is a technique used to cancel the reactive power of an electrical network and make the system work in steady state. It does this by using a capacitor bank connected across each phase of the circuit. The series compensation uses high voltage electrolytic capacitors which are charged up to 16,000 volts during regular operations but can be increased up to 32,000 volts with no change in frequency when needed.
