Product Definition:
A float sensor is an electronic device used to measure the level of a liquid within a container. The sensor works by detecting the change in capacitance that occurs when the liquid comes into contact with two metal plates on the top and bottom of the sensor. This change in capacitance is then converted into a digital signal that can be read by a microcontroller or other electronic device.
Top-mounted Type:
Top-mounted type is a technology that has its origin in the automotive industry. It was first implemented in safety applications, such as airbags and rollover protection. The top mounted sensor system includes a housing having an opening for receiving a float or other sensing element inside it, which is usually made of plastic or glass material. A metal stem projects from the top of the housing and goes into the car’s body to measure vibrations, shocks & noise generated within it.
Side-Mounted Type:
The side-mounted type is mounted on the float and it’s used to measure water level. It consists of a sensor, transmitter and receiver which are connected by an electrical cable. The device works on the principle of electromagnetic induction when in contact with water.
It measures the speed and direction of current as well as voltage fluctuations that are present in electric circuits within a body of water such as canals, rivers or lakes.
