The drug was developed by the collaboration of GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis and Malaria No More in 2012 for the treatment of P. falciparum malaria which is one of the most prevalent diseases globally with around 250 million cases annually according to WHO statistics.

Flubendazole is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of dogs and cats over 6 weeks of age. It works by killing the bacteria in the pets' systems. The product is available as both a powder and liquid, which are mixed with water or milk to make an injection.
