Single Crystal:


Single crystal is a term used for referring to a type of clear, single-sided piece of glass. It can be produced from silica or other materials such as frit and feldspar. The production process involves melting the material at an extremely high temperature (2,000°C - 3,000°C) and then cooling it slowly so that the liquid form becomes stable.


Multi Crystal:


Multi crystal is a process in which many crystals are grown at the same time from a common source. It helps to increase the yield of high quality and pure material as compared to single crystal. Multi-crystal has several advantages such as it can be used for long term production, it can be used in different applications like sensors, optoelectronics and electronics etc., multi-crystal structure provides better performance than single crystal etc.


Application Insights:


The demand for gallium phosphide in semiconductors dominated the overall market in 2017. The material is used as a source of Ga and Al, which are then combined to form p-type and n-type semiconductor materials, respectively. Gallium phosphides with high purity (99.9%) are used as substrates for growing thin film transistors (TFTs) on account of their high surface area, low cost and superior characteristics.


Gallium phosphide is also used extensively in the manufacturing of optoelectronic devices such as LEDs owing to its excellent lasing properties when combined with gallium arsenide or aluminum arsenide substrates.
