Product Definition:
Glass substrates are used in TFT-LCDs to provide a smooth surface on which the transistors can be fabricated. The use of glass substrates allows for higher resolution displays since the irregularities on the surface of silicon wafers cause light to scatter, resulting in a lower resolution image. Glass also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, meaning that it does not expand or contract as much as other materials when heated or cooled, making it an ideal material for use in LCDs.
