A heat recovery wheel (HRW) is a component of an air handling unit that captures heat from the exhaust airstream and transfers it to the incoming fresh air stream. The recovered energy reduces the load on the heating or cooling system, which can lead to energy savings.


Condensation Rotors:


Condensation rotors are used in heat recovery wheels to remove the water from the air which is passed through it. The process of removing water vapor produces a cooling effect, thereby reducing the temperature of the system. Hygroscopic Rotors:


Hygroscopic rotors are made of special materials that absorb moisture from the air and prevent it from getting into the bearings. As a result, they tend to dry up before any of the other components in a heat recovery wheel (HRW). This is one of the primary reasons HRW fail; if there is no lubrication between the rotor and hub then heat cannot be conducted out during braking.
