Market Overview:
The global heptane solvent market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in this market can be attributed to the increasing demand for heptane solvents from various end-use industries, such as pharmaceutical intermediates, electronics, industrial solvents, and others. Heptane 95%, heptane 97%, and other types are the key segments of the global heptane solvent market. The other type segment is projected to grow at a higher CAGR than the other two segments during the forecast period. This growth can be attributed to its growing use in various end-use industries, such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Product Definition:
Heptane is a colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic petroleum-like odor. It is insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents. Heptane is used as an industrial solvent and as a component of gasoline.
Heptane 95%:
Heptane is a flammable, colorless and volatile liquid with an odor similar to gasoline. It is also known as octane number 7. Heptanes are produced by the catalytic cracking of paraffin waxes at 200-300 °C under high pressure and temperature in the presence of a catalyst. The major raw materials used for heptane production include crude oil, soybean oil, palm kernel oil and animal fats (bovine).
Heptane 97%:
Heptane is a flammable, colorless and volatile liquid with a strong odor. It is produced by the fractionation of crude oil. The major sources of heptane are the cracking of heavy oils and coal tar; while minor sources include soybean oil, palm kernel oil, rapeseed/tallow greases and recycled petrochemicals.
Application Insights:
The industrial solvent segment dominated the global heptane solvent market in terms of revenue share in 2017. Industrial applications of heptane include oil & gas, paints & coatings, pharmaceuticals, and others such as adhesives and sealants. The demand for heptane industrial solvents is expected to grow on account of their increasing use in chemical manufacturing from Europe and North America. In addition, growing demand for these products from Asia Pacific countries including China and India will drive the growth over the forecast period.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market with a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to rapid industrialization and increasing foreign investments in the region. The growth can be attributed to rising production of pharmaceuticals, electronics, and other such products that require heptane solvent as a key ingredient.
The presence of various end-use industries coupled with growing demand for high performance polymers in developed economies such as U.S., Canada, Germany, UK is anticipated to augment industry growth over the forecast period.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand from end-use industries such as paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, and printing inks
- Rising demand for heptane solvent in emerging countries due to the growth of their economies and the expansion of their manufacturing sectors
- Growing use of heptane solvent in various applications such as solvents, diluents, thinners, de-greasers etc.
- Technological advancements that have led to the development of new products with better performance characteristics
- Stringent environmental regulations governing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
