Herpes Marker Testing is the process of testing a person for the presence of herpes simplex virus antibodies. These antibodies are produced by the body in response to a viral infection. HSV-1:


HSV-1 is also known as genital herpes, generally caused by the HSV-1 virus. It is commonly found in children and most often causes cold sores around the mouth. Primary infection usually occurs when a person has no prior exposure to oral or genital sex.


HSV-2:


HSV-2 is also known as genital herpes. It is a viral infection of the skin and mucous membranes that occur in the oropharynx, anogenital area, and buttocks. The virus can be transmitted through oral-genital contact, most notably during vaginal or anal sex. HSV-2 can also be acquired from contaminated objects like towels, bed sheets or even from one’s own body fluids (such as urine or saliva).
