Market Overview:
The global high oleic canola oil market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X%. The food industry segment is expected to account for the majority share of the global high oleic canola oil market during the forecast period. However, the biofuels segment is anticipated to register highest CAGR over the forecast period. North America dominates the global high oleic canola oil market, followed by Europe and Asia Pacific. However, Asia Pacific is expected to exhibit highest growth rate during 2018-2030 owing to increasing demand from countries such as China and India.
Product Definition:
High Oleic Canola Oil is a plant-based oil that is high in monounsaturated fats. It has a higher smoke point than other oils, making it perfect for cooking at high temperatures.
Cold-pressed Canola Oil:
Cold-pressed canola oil is a byproduct of the processing of rapeseed and sunflower oils. It has high oleic content which makes it different from other regular vegetable oils. Cold-pressed canola oil finds its application in food & beverage, personal care & cosmetics, animal feed and industrial purposes.
Extracted Canola Oil:
Extracted canola oil is the liquid that is obtained from the seeds of rapeseed and sunflower after they are extracted. The extracted oil contains low levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also contains high levels of oleic acid which has a beneficial effect on human health as compared to other vegetable oils. This product finds application in food & beverage industry for human consumption as well as industrial purposes like biodiesel production.
Application Insights:
Food industry was the largest application segment in 2016 and is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. High oleic canola oil has excellent frying properties which make it a suitable cooking medium for deep-fat frying. The product also finds application as an ingredient in salad dressings, mayonnaise, cheese spreads and bakery products. Mayonnaise made with high oleic canola oil is healthier than traditional mayo due to higher content of healthy unsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins A & D.
The biofuel segment accounted for a share of 8% in 2016 owing to growing demand from emerging economies such as China, India and Brazil for its usage as biodiesel feedstock due to its low acid content that makes it easier for plants to absorb nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen Fixing prices at competitive levels while protecting farmers¢â‚¬â„¢ interests will remain key issues addressed by government during upcoming negotiations with major producers including U.S.
Regional Analysis:
North America was the largest regional market in 2017 owing to high demand from various end-use industries, such as food and beverage, cosmetics and personal care. The region is expected to maintain its dominance over the forecast period due to increasing product applications in cosmetic products. High consumer awareness regarding health benefits of oleic acid based products is projected to further propel industry growth over the next eight years.
Europe accounted for a significant share of global revenue in 2017 owing to growing consumption from countries like Germany, France and U.K., where per capita consumption is more than two times that of other European countries like Italy, Spain or Portugal according to Eurostat (European Union Statistics). Increasing application scope in biodiesel production along with rising R&D activities on high oleic canola oil properties are some factors responsible for maintaining Europe’s position as a major market throughout the forecast period.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for healthy and nutritious food products is driving the growth of high oleic canola oil market.
- Rising awareness about the health benefits of high oleic canola oil is fueling its demand among consumers.
- Growing popularity of plant-based diets is propelling the growth of high oleic canola oil market.
- Increasing use of high oleic canola oil in processed foods is boosting its demand worldwide.
- Rapid urbanization and changing lifestyle trends are contributing to the growth of global high oleic canola oil market
