6N:


6N, also known as hexachloroplatinate, is an inorganic compound. It's a solid material that dissolves in water to give a green solution and is mainly used for the de-icing of aircraft. The compound has no commercial use other than this application and hence it's produced synthetically by the chlorination of germanium tetrafluoride which is itself an industrial chemical.


8N:


8N is the chemical formula for high purity germanium tetrachloride. It is a pale yellow solid and has a slight odor. Germanium tetrachloride (Ge(Cl4)2) can be considered as an industrial by-product, which was obtained during the production of other chemicals such as hexane and terephthalic acid.
