Product Definition:


A high purity solvent is a chemical that has been purified to the greatest extent possible. This means that it contains very low levels of impurities, which can adversely affect the final product. High purity solvents are important because they help ensure the quality of the end product.


Acetone:


Acetone is an organic compound and it's a colorless, flammable liquid with a strong odor. It has a similar structure to that of ethanol but higher carbon content. Acetone is mainly used in the production of paraxylene and for cleaning purposes as well.


Acetonitrile:


It is an intermediate chemical used in the production of polymers, adhesives & sealants, paints & coatings and printing inks. It is also used as a reagent for the detection of halogenated compounds. Acetonitrile has applications in several end-use industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals and oil drilling fluids among others.


Application Insights:


Semiconductor emerged as the dominant application segment and accounted for over 35% of the global revenue share in 2017. Paints and coatings are one of the major applications where high purity solvents are used to remove oils, waxes, silicones, resins & lacquers that form deposits on various semiconductor substrates. Acetone is most commonly used high purity solvent in this application segment followed by dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). However acetone is likely to lose market share due to increasing use of DMSO for manufacturing field effect transistors (FETs) which has higher efficiency than acetone.


Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) require very pure liquid crystal solutions since they have sensitive electrical properties that need to be controlled during their production process.
