An HMO is a healthcare organization that provides comprehensive care to its members through a network of contracted physicians. An important benefit of HMOs is that they offer preventive care services at no additional cost to their members.


Neutral HMOs:


Neutral HMOs are used to treat tooth decay, gum diseases and oral cancer. They are also known as non-toxic HMO or N-HMO. It is a group of chemical substances that can enter cells and damage their reproductive ability. This chemical is considered safe for consumption by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) because it does not have any side effects on human health when consumed in prescribed limits.


Acidic HMOs:


Acidic HMOs are highly soluble in water and have a pH value below 7.5. They are used as an additive to increase the solubility of hydrophobic hydroxyapatite (HAP) in organic solvents, thus enabling its application as an adsorbent for metal ions. Acidic HMOs can be manufactured by chemical synthesis or biotechnology methods; both techniques produce similar results with respect to product yield and cost involved.
