Flake Appearance:


Flake appearance is a measure of the particulate matter in a liquid and it has no relation with viscosity. It is usually determined by using a sieve or equivalent method. The test can be used to detect any impurities that may be present in the raw material during manufacturing as well as for checking the efficiency of separation techniques employed during processing.


The test gives an accurate reading only when carried out under ideal conditions which include temperature, relative humidity and time.

Hydrogenated terpene polymers are used as plasticizers for PVC, EVA and latex paints owing to their high viscosity index which helps improve paint adhesion properties such as dry-film thickness, film strength and hardness. They are also used as fillers in polyurethane foams where they act as a release agent during molding processes that results in improved foam performance when compared with traditional petroleum-based plastics.


Other applications include coatings, printing ink, cosmetics & personal care products wherein it is utilized mainly as an emollient or solubilizer along with its derivatives such as dihydrobenzene (DHB) and hydroxy benzene (HBA).
