A solid laser is a device that produces light by the interaction of matter and electromagnetic radiation. The term solid usually refers to a non-laser or low power laser system, which is used for commercial applications such as engraving, marking and labeling. A typical example of a commercially available solid laser consists of an optical source (such as diode), high voltage transformer, electrical driver (tube or disc), beam splitter/combiner optics assembly with filter wheel and optional focusing lens.
