Product Definition:
Light fidelity (Li-Fi) is a technology that uses light to transmit data. Visible light communication (VLC) is a subset of Li-Fi that uses visible light to transmit data. Both technologies use the same underlying principle: Modulating the intensity of a light source in order to encode information.
They are much faster, with speeds up to 10 Gbps reported in laboratory tests.
They are more secure, as they are not susceptible to eavesdropping or interference from other devices.
They require no special hardware or software, and can be implemented using standard LED lighting fixtures.
LED:
LED is a semiconductor device that produces light when an electric current is passed through it. The most commonly used LED today are those found in digital displays, such as the ones in your computer or smartphone. However, there are many other types of LEDs out there which can be used for various applications; some of these include LEDs for traffic signals, medical imaging scanners (x-ray & MRI), and car headlamps among others.
Photodetectors:
Photodetectors are detectors that work on the principle of detecting light and responding to it. They are used in Li-Fi & VLC products for communication purposes. A photodiode is a type of photodetector, which is used in Li-Fi systems for data transmission. It helps in detecting the presence of other devices using visible light communication (VLC) technology within its detection range thereby enabling them to communicate with each other.
