Product Definition:
Logic comparators are devices that compare two logic levels and produce an output signal that is high if the two levels are equal and low if they are not equal. They can be used to create simple logic gates such as AND, OR, NAND, and NOR gates. The importance of logic comparators is that they can be used to create circuits with very few components.
Open Collector:
Open collector is an output stage of a logic circuit, which has no internal connection to negative or positive terminal.
In above figure, we can see that open collector output has no physical contact and it’s symbol is OC (Latin for “zero”). Open collector outputs are used in level shifting and making inverter circuits.
Totem-Pole:
Totem-poles are used in logic Comparators to implement positive and negative comparison functions. They are basically two short pieces of metal, which have a magnetic field between them and they act as an electrical switch when they come close to each other. The main function of a logic Comparator is to generate an output signal that is 0 or 1 depending upon the value of input signals it receives.
