Market Overview:
The global low voltage contactors market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for energy-efficient equipment and rising awareness about energy conservation. Low voltage contactors are used in various applications such as motor application, power switching, and other applications. In terms of type, the AC contactor segment is expected to hold the largest share of the global low voltage contactors market during the forecast period. This can be attributed to its growing use in industrial and commercial applications across different regions.
Product Definition:
A low voltage contactor is a device used to control the power to a load using a low voltage signal. This can be used to turn on or off a load, or to vary the amount of power going to the load. Low voltage contactors are important because they allow for safe and easy control of high-power devices using low-voltage signals.
AC Contactor:
An AC contactor is a switching device used to interrupt the flow of electric current when the load on its terminals exceeds the rating of the switch. It consists of an insulated housing, which may be mounted on a circuit board and has two terminals connected by an insulating barrier that can be opened or closed by means of a control mechanism. The opening or closing causes an electrical circuit to operate and thus provides protection against damage due to overloading.
DC Contactor:
DC contactor is a switching device used in low voltage contactors. It is also known as a darlington or single-phase switch. The basic function of DC contactor is to protect the load from short circuits and open circuit, which occurs when the input power source gets cut off during an abnormal condition at the output end of the equipment.
The normal functioning process involves two steps; first, it converts AC to DC.
Application Insights:
The motor application segment accounted for the largest share of over 50.0% in 2017 and is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. The growing demand for industrial robots across manufacturing facilities is expected to propel the product demand in industrial applications, such as material handling, packaging, palletizing and labeling systems.
In addition, increasing investments by foreign players in China and India are likely to provide a fillip to industry expansion through joint ventures or strategic partnerships with local players. For instance; In 2015; Mitsubishi Electric Corporation established a joint venture with State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) called ¢â‚¬Å“Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Co., Ltd¢â‚¬ at Wuhan University City campus which involved investment worth USD 492 million until 2022 on a build-own-operate basis.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market over the forecast period. The growth of this region is attributed to increasing demand for motor application and power switching products in countries, such as China, India, Japan and South Korea. In addition, rising number of manufacturing facilities in developing economies coupled with growing industrialization will drive product demand further.
The Asia Pacific contactors market was valued at USD X billion in 2017 owing to presence of a large number of end users along with rapidly expanding industries including oil & gas industry.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for energy-efficient electrical equipment
- Rapid industrialization and urbanization in developing countries
- Rising investment in construction and infrastructure projects
- Growing popularity of contactor-based motor control systems
- Technological advancements that improve the performance and efficiency of contactors
