Product Definition:
A meltblown nonwoven cloth is a fabric made from synthetic fibers that are extruded through tiny nozzles and then blown into a thin web. The importance of meltblown nonwoven cloth for masks is that it can filter out very small particles, such as those found in air pollution. It is also breathable, so it does not cause the wearer to feel too hot or sweaty.
Grade 95:
Grade 95 is a high strength, abrasion resistant, and flexible polypropylene nonwoven cloth used in the production of medical masks. It has excellent tear resistance owing to its cross-linked structure which makes it stronger as compared to other conventional materials such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyamide (PA). The material also displays good chemical resistance owing to the presence of functional groups that provide chemical stability.
Grade 99:
Grade 99 is a type of meltblown nonwoven cloth used as a raw material for manufacturing medical masks. It has excellent breathability and tear resistance properties, which make it suitable to be used in the production of medical masks.
Meltblown nonwovens are made by melting polymer fibers together at a very high temperature; around 1,500°C or 2,000°C depending upon the fiber type.
Application Insights:
The application segment includes medical mask, general mask and others. Medical masks held the largest market share in terms of revenue in 2017. Meltblown nonwoven fabrics are widely used for manufacturing medical masks due to their properties such as breathability, resistance to fluid penetration and sterilizability. These properties make them suitable for use in healthcare applications where there is a risk of contamination by other micro-organisms or particulates carried through the air.
General masks were the second largest application segment accounting for 19% of total industry volume in 2017 owing to increasing demand from end-use industries such as construction and automotive among others which require protection against harmful particles including dust, fumes and gases while maintaining visibility levels required by workers during various operations on site.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific Meltblown Nonwoven Cloth for Mask Market accounted for the largest share in 2016 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. This can be attributed to growing medical tourism in emerging economies of India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. In addition, increasing cases of chronic respiratory diseases are also expected to drive demand for these products in this region.
North America is anticipated to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rising product demand from various end-use industries such as healthcare & hygiene; food processing; automotive interiors; mattress manufacturing etc. Rising awareness regarding personal health along with stringent government regulations on employee safety during industrial operations are some factors that can be attributed towards increased consumption of meltblown nonwoven cloth masks across this region.
