A cable gland is a device used to attach and seal an electrical cable to a junction box or enclosure. The gland creates an environmental seal around the cable, while also providing mechanical protection for the cable. Brass is a copper-zinc alloy and consists of 60% copper, 20% zinc and 20% nickel. It has high electrical resistance than pure copper or zinc metal cable. It also has better malleability than steel cable which makes it suitable for use in underground cables.
It’s physical properties make it an ideal material for use in the manufacturing of electrical cables: low weight, flexibility, ductility & conductivity (at elevated temperatures).
Stainless Steel:
Stainless steel is a type of alloy that consists of iron, chromium, nickel and titanium. The combination of these metals provides it with exceptional corrosion resistance. It has high electrical resistance and can easily carry the load without getting warm. These properties make it ideal for use in metal cable glands used to join two metal sheets together.
