α-Methylnaphthalen (IMN) is an organic compound, which is also known as 1-methylnaphthalene. It has a pyranine structure and was first discovered in 1843 by the German scientist Friedrich August Kekulé. IMN is colorless and highly soluble in water with a melting point of 183 °C.


B-Methylnaphthalen:


B-Methylnaphthalen is an organic compound that is classified as naphthoquinone. It has a strong smell of gasoline and when heated, gives off toxic fumes. B-Methylnaphthalen can be prepared by the chemical reaction between nitrobenzene and dimethylnaphthalene in the presence of calcium carbonate or barium carbonate as catalysts.
