A micro-ohmmeter is a device used to measure the electrical resistance of an object. This device is important because it can help determine the quality and condition of an electrical component or wire.


Stationary Type:


Stationary type is used to measure the resistance between two points in an electric circuit. It works on the principle of self-inductance and magnetic effect. Micro-ohmmeter uses a stationary type for measuring small quantities of current, voltage or resistance and also displays results on digital display.


Portable Type:


The portable type is used to measure the resistance of a material in electrical and electronic applications. It consists of two metal probes with an insulated handle at one end and a connection for electric current at the other end. The portable types are available in different configurations, which include single-probe, double-probe, triple-probe & combination probe sets.


Application Insights:


The market is segmented based on the application into laboratory, commercial and industrial. The laboratory held the largest share of over 60% in 2017. This is attributed to extensive usage of micro-ohmmeters for testing electrical and electronic devices under vacuum conditions. Micro-ohmters are used for measuring small resistive differences between two points, which enables measurement of very low resistance values with high accuracy as compared to conventional ohmmeters that are used at normal room temperature.


Micro-ohmters have wide applications in laboratories where they are used to measure extremely low resistance values below 10 - 12 ohms, which cannot be measured with conventional equipment due to their higher error margins even if they could be measured at normal temperatures.
