A mineral filler is a nonmetallic additive used to improve the physical and mechanical properties of plastics. Mineral fillers can be divided into two major categories: (1) inorganic fillers, which are derived from natural minerals such as talc, clay, and carbonates; and (2) organic fillers, which are made from plant or animal-based materials. Inorganic fillers tend to be harder and more brittle than organic ones; they also have higher melting points, making them better suited for use in high-temperature applications. Plastics:


Plastics are derived from petroleum products such as polyethylene, polypropylene and nylon. They are lightweight, durable and have a high melting point.
