Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is a nutrient broth used in cell culture to promote the growth of cells. The importance of MEM is that it provides a standardized and consistent medium for culturing cells, which ensures accurate experimental results.
500 ml:
500 ml is the minimum amount of medium required for a typical cell culture. It can be either serum-free or contain 1% (v/v) fetal bovine serum. 500 ml MEM is typically used to grow up to 8 passage cells in suspension or 12 passage cells in a tissue culture Petri dish.
500 ml MEM consists of: Medium, salts and antibiotics where the medium contains all the nutrients necessary for cell growth.
1 L:
1 L is the lowest volume that can be used to measure any component in MEM. It is also known as the International System of Units (ISU) or Imperial units. 1 liter with an option of being converted into cubic meters, grams, and ounces is a common unit used across many industries such as pharmaceuticals, food & beverages and chemical industry among others.
Application Insights:
