Product Definition:


Natural asphalt is a type of asphalt that is found in nature. It is made up of bitumen, which is a type of oil, and sand. Natural asphalt can be used to make roads and other infrastructure projects.


Derived from Coal:


Coal is the main source of energy for thermal power plants and accounts for a major portion of the overall fuel cost. It also has a high calorific value which makes it more valuable than other fuels. The by-product derived from coal, i.e., coke, can be used as an alternative to bitumen in natural asphalt mixing and has been doing so since the past few years.


Derived from Oil:


Derived from oil (DO) is a type of natural asphalt that is produced using crude oil as its main ingredient. The crude oil used in the production of derived from oil (DO) contains around 90% to 95% of petroleum and 5% to 10 % content of other hydrocarbons such as naphtha, gas oils, and condensates.


Application Insights:


The construction application segment led the global natural asphalt market in 2017 and is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. This can be attributed to increasing urbanization along with a growing need for infrastructure development, particularly in developing countries such as India, China and Brazil.
