Product Definition:


Non-graphitizing carbon is a type of carbon that does not form graphite under standard conditions. Non-graphitizing carbon is used in applications where graphite would be unsuitable, such as high-temperature environments.


Coal Tar Source:


Coal tar is a by-product obtained during the coalification process. It is a dark and viscous liquid that has high carbon content. Coal tar consists of organic compounds, such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones and toluene along with inorganic components such as iron oxide and calcium sulfate. The major application of coal tar is in the production of bitumen which is used for paving roads (asphalt), roofing products & pipelines coating etc.


Natural Plant Source:


Natural plant source is carbon that is not contaminated with any other element. It can be sourced from living plants or dead plants. The most common sources of natural plant-based carbon are wood, leaves, and fruit peels.


Application Insights:


Power battery was the leading application segment in terms of demand and accounted for a revenue share of more than 40.0% in 2017. Non-graphitizing carbon is used as an additive to improve the performance of graphite electrodes in lithium-ion batteries, which are used for commercial and residential applications such as power grid storage, UPS systems, emergency lighting & telecommunication equipment among others.
