Global Non-Residential Polished Concrete Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

Non-Residential Polished Concrete is concrete that has been treated with a densifier and polished using diamond abrasives. The purpose of polishing is to produce a high-gloss or mirror-like finish. Non-residential polished concrete is often used in commercial settings because it is durable, low maintenance, and looks great.

Bonded Abrasive Polished Concrete:

Bonded abrasive polished concrete is a special type of concrete that contains small pieces of glass beads or sand-sized particles. These glass beads or sand-sized particles act as tiny abrasives and help in polishing the surface of cement by grinding down the roughness. The process also helps in making the surface smoother, brighter, and more reflective than regular concrete.

Burnished Polished Concrete:

The concrete mixture is first of all ground into a fine powder. The powdered concrete is then mixed with water and the other ingredients according to the desired texture, color, and strength of the final product. The mixture is then spread over large baking trays or sheets that are later heated at very high temperatures so as to obtain a smooth and uniform surface on which glazed or unglazed tiles can be placed.

Application Insights:

The new floors application segment led the global market in 2017 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of XX% over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to rising construction activities in commercial spaces, such as offices, malls and hypermarkets, across developing countries including China, India and Brazil. In addition, increasing penetration of polished concrete flooring systems in new residential constructions is expected to drive demand over the next eight years.

Retrofit floors application segment accounted for 23% share of the total revenue in 2017 owing to growing refurbishment activities at old buildings/structures particularly across Europe and North America regions.

Regional Analysis:

Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market with a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to increasing construction activities in emerging economies, such as China and India. In addition, rising disposable income levels and growing population will drive the demand for commercial spaces in Asia Pacific region, which will further propel market growth over the forecast period.

The European region accounted for 24% of global revenue share in 2017 on account of high acceptance towards innovative flooring solutions resulting into increased adoption across several industries including healthcare & life sciences, education & learning centers, hotels & restaurants etc. Moreover Polished Concrete (PC) has been gaining popularity among consumers due to its aesthetic appeal and easy maintenance characteristics thereby boosting product demand over the forecast period.

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for polished concrete in the commercial and institutional sectors as a flooring option because of its durability, low maintenance and environmental friendly characteristics.
  • Rising awareness about the benefits of polished concrete floors among architects, designers, builders and consumers due to increasing number of case studies being published by industry players.
  • Growing popularity of polished concrete as an eco-friendly flooring option among green building enthusiasts.
  • Proliferation of contractors offering polishing services for concrete floors due to increase in demand for the same from construction sector players such as developers, builders etcetera
