A tie-back drilling riser is a device used to raise the equipment into position for performing operations such as drilling and well testing. It consists of a long metal arm with a bend at the end, which is attached to the rig floor by means of heavy-duty clamps or hitches. The drill string is then connected to this riser using one or more short pieces known as pigging arms.
