Market Overview:
The global oil stabilizer market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for oil stabilizers from various end-use industries, such as gasoline engines and diesel engines. In addition, the growing demand for heavy-duty type oil stabilizers is also contributing to the growth of this market. Based on type, the global oil stabilizer market can be segmented into heavy-duty type and other types. The heavy-duty type segment is expected to account for a major share of this market during the forecast period. This segment is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. On account of their superior properties, such as high viscosity index and thermal stability, these products are being increasingly used in applications that require high performance levels. Based on application, the global oil stabilizermarket can be divided into gasoline engines and diesel engines segments.
Product Definition:
An oil stabilizer is a substance that is added to motor oil to help keep it from breaking down and becoming sludgy. This can be important for vehicles that are driven regularly, as the sludgy oil can lead to engine problems. An oil stabilizer will also help keep the viscosity of the oil consistent, which can be important for engines that operate at high temperatures.
Heavy Duty Type:
Heavy-duty stabilizers are used to prevent the formation of crystals in liquid oils. They have a high boiling point and low molecular weight, which allows them to remain stable at temperatures as high as 200 C. The most commonly used heavy-duty stabilizer is sodium methanearsonate, also known as woodriff or woodruff salt.
Other:
Other is a generic name for any additive other than the three main components of an oil stabilizer. Other additives can be further divided into two broad categories, those that are added to enhance stability and those that are added to improve the overall quality of the oil.
The major function performed by other additives is to prevent or delay oxidation (IOO) of fatty acids in vegetable oils and animal fats.
Application Insights:
Gasoline engines accounted for the largest share of over 80.0% in 2017 and are expected to continue their dominance over the forecast period. The segment is driven by growing demand for gasoline in countries, such as India, China and Japan. In addition, stabilizers are used to improve fuel efficiency across a wide range of temperatures which helps reduce carbon emissions significantly when compared with other fuels such as diesel or petrol gasoline blende.
Diesel engine applications are projected to witness significant growth at a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to rising demand from developing countries including Brazil and Indonesia where diesel is widely used for its power density factor which makes it suitable for heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs).
Regional Analysis:
North America was the second-largest regional market in 2017. The U.S., being a major oil producer, is expected to be an important consumer of stabilizers over the forecast period. Asia Pacific is projected to be the fastest-growing region from 2018 to 2030 owing to increasing demand for fuel efficiency and reduced emissions coupled with rising disposable income levels in emerging economies including China and India.
The Middle East & Africa (MEA) accounted for approximately 6% of global consumption in 2017 due to high product demand from countries such as Saudi Arabia and UAE that are major consumers of heavy duty stabilizers globally.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for oil stabilization from end-use industries, such as automotive and aerospace
- Growing awareness about the benefits of using oil stabilizers among consumers
- Technological advancements in the production of oil stabilizers
- Rising investments by key players in research and development activities to develop new products
- Expansion of distribution channels by key players to increase their presence in the market
