Product Definition:


A PAN-based carbon fiber precursor is a material used to make carbon fiber. PAN (polyacrylonitrile) is a polymer that is made into a liquid and then spun into fibers. These fibers are then heated and turned into carbon fiber. Carbon fiber has many uses, including in aircraft, cars, sports equipment, and wind turbines.


Small Tow:


Small tow is the process of removing carbon fiber from its precursor material using a special kind of slurry. It’s also known as pre-tow or pre-pulping. The purpose of this step is to separate the fibers so that they can be wound up for further processing in advance such as carding, rol ing, and screening.


Big Tow:


The big tow process is used to remove the fiber from the precursor material in a continuous length. It's major use is to separate carbon fibers from their raw materials. The product that comes out after this process is called as Big Tow Product (BTP).


This BTP can be further processed into various products such as prepreg, CFRP, and CTFE among others depending on its end-use applications.
