Paraffin Control Chemicals are used to help control the level of paraffin in crude oil and refined products. Paraffin is a natural constituent of crude oil, but at high levels it can cause problems in refining and transportation. The use of paraffin control chemicals helps to maintain product quality and reduce the cost associated with removing paraffin from finished products.


Solvents:


Solvents are basically used to dissolve another substance so that it can be used in a different form. They are also known as wetting agents, or defoamers. The most common solvent is water; however, there are many others such as alcohols, glycol ethers and ketones among others. Solvent abuse usually takes place when they are misused or used for the purpose of getting high (illegally).


Dispersants:


Dispersants are additives that help to evenly distribute the paraffin in the oil. They can be natural or artificial in nature and their major application is in petroleum products such as drilling muds, motor oils, and fuel oils.


Dispersants are also used for other products such as waxes, polishes & dry lubricants among others but their major use is in petroleum based products.
