Market Overview:
The global PE resins market is expected to reach USD XX million by 2030, at a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period 2018-2030. The growth in the global PE resins market can be attributed to the increasing demand for polyethylene from various end-use industries such as automotive and transport, building and construction, textiles, packaging, and others. In terms of type, HDPE is expected to hold a major share in the global PE resins market during the forecast period. However, LDPE is projected to grow at a higher CAGR than HDPE during the forecast period. In terms of application, consumer goods is projected to be one of the fastest-growing segments in the global PE resins market during 2018-2030.
Product Definition:
Polyethylene resins are high-molecular weight, linear polymers made from ethylene and copolymers of ethylene with other olefins. They are thermoplastic materials that can be molded into various shapes when heated and cooled. PE resins have a wide range of applications, including packaging, automotive components, medical devices, and construction materials.
HDPE:
High-density polyethylene, also called HDPE for short, is a thermoplastic polymer with high strength and stiffness. It's the most commonly used resin in the plastic industry. HDPE has applications in various industries such as packaging, construction & building materials, consumer goods & electronics among others owing to its properties such as excellent chemical resistance and low cost compared to other resins.
LDPE:
LDPE is linear low-density polyethylene and it has a density of 0.945 - 0.980 g/cm³. It is used in the production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE).
Application Insights:
The packaging segment accounted for over 30% of the overall revenue share in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance throughout the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing demand for corrugated boxes from various industries such as food, consumer goods, and medical among others. Rising preference towards lightweight and durable packaging materials is also likely to have a positive impact on market growth over the coming years.
Automotive & transport was another major application sector that accounted for a significant revenue share in 2017 owing to growing automotive production across developing countries such as China India Japan South Korea Brazil etc. Moreover, stringent regulations regarding reduction of vehicular weight are anticipated to boost product demand further during the forecast period especially in emerging markets like China India etc where vehicle manufacturing has taken off at a rapid pace since past few years due largely low cost factor compared with developed economies such as U.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region is home to several emerging economies, including China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. These countries are projected to grow at a rapid pace over the coming years owing to their abundant natural resources as well as skilled & educated workforce.
China emerged as a major consumer of plastic compounds in Asia Pacific due to high product demand from various end-use industries such as automotive and construction coupled with rising per capita income of consumers in this country. In addition, favorable government regulations for promoting investments along with increasing foreign direct investments are also expected favorably impact industry growth over the next eight years.
Latin America has been experiencing strong economic growth on account of increasing disposable income resulting into increased spending on household goods such as refrigerators or washing machines along with growing automobile production levels across Brazil.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand from end-use industries such as automotive, construction, and electrical & electronics
- Rising demand for lightweight and fuel-efficient vehicles
- Growing construction spending in emerging economies
- Proliferation of electric vehicles
- Stringent environmental regulations
