White phosphorus:


White phosphorus is a highly reactive, crystalline form of phosphorus that occurs in nature as a by-product of phosphoric acid. It has a purity level greater than 99.5%. White phosphorus can be produced either through the contact process or the thermal process. In the contact process, white phosphorus is obtained from (sulfuric) acid and phosphate rock; whereas in the thermal process it is derived from phosphoric acid and calcium sulfate or calcium carbonate.


Red phosphorus:


Red phosphorus is the commercial name for an inorganic chemical compound. It is a highly toxic and inflammable material, which can be easily obtained from fire logs or coal. Red phosphorus has several industrial uses including production of matches, fertilizers, plastic materials and others.


Application Insights:


Detergents was the largest application segment and accounted for over 30% of the total market volume in 2017. Phosphorus is used as an active agent in detergent formulations to remove oil, grease, dirt and soil from fabrics.
