Market Overview:
The global pipe relining market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for cured-in-place (CIP) and pull-in-place (PIP) methods due to their advantages over traditional methods such as pipe bursting and internal pipe coating. In addition, the growing demand for relining in commercial and residential applications is also contributing to the growth of the market. The North American region dominates the global pipe relining market, followed by Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. The high adoption rate of advanced technologies in these regions is driving the growth of this market.
Product Definition:
Pipe relining is the process of repairing a pipeline by inserting a new pipe liner inside the old one. This new liner can be made from various materials, such as epoxy resin, fiberglass, or PVC. Pipe relining is often used to repair pipelines that are damaged or corroded.
Cured-in-place:
Cured-in-place (CIP) is a process of lining pipe with a polymer resin that is cured by the reaction between the pipe and an epoxy resin matrix. Curing takes place in two stages, first stage involves heating of mixture to develop thermal stability and second stage involves high temperature curing using equipment such as autoclave or oven.
Pull-in-place:
The pull-in-place technique is used to install a lining pipe in place of the existing pipe. The process involves firstly removing the old lining with a suitable tool and then installing the new one by using tension control devices such as hydraulic arms, mechanical arms or dogs, etc. This method reduces installation time and also ensures that no damage is caused to any underground pipes during replacement operations.
Application Insights:
The residential application segment accounted for the largest share of over 60.0% in 2017. The growth can be attributed to increasing number of relining projects in the residential sector across various regions, including North America and Europe. For instance, according to a study by the U.S.-based Center for Construction Research and Education (CRC), around 40% of homes have plumbing systems that are at high risk for leaks due to age or design flaws, which need pipe replacement as soon as possible before they fail completely.
Commercial applications are expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rising demand from commercial buildings such as hospitals, hotels and restaurants etc., globally.
Regional Analysis:
The demand for pipe relining in North America is expected to witness growth over the forecast period owing to the presence of robust manufacturing base for construction materials and infrastructure. The growing need for rehabilitation, renovation, reconstruction of existing buildings & structures is anticipated to drive industry growth. In addition, increasing investments in pipeline transportation and storage facilities are likely to propel market development over the coming years.
Asia Pacific was estimated as largest regional segment with a volume share of 68.1% in 2017 on account of rapid industrialization coupled with rising government initiatives pertaining to sustainable infrastructure development across emerging economies including China.
Europe region accounted second-largest segment followed by Asia Pacific region on account of presence major manufacturers such as Nippon Paint Holdings Co., Ltd.; Sherwin-Williams; PPG Industries Inc.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for pipe relining as an alternative to traditional methods of repairing pipelines due to its advantages such as less time consumption, lesser requirement of workforce and equipment, and low cost.
- Rising awareness about the benefits of pipe relining among consumers, which is resulting in an increase in its adoption across various industries.
- Growing investments by leading players in research and development activities to develop new and innovative products that can cater to the needs of different end-users.
- Proliferation of digital marketing channels that are helping companies reach a wider audience with their product offerings.
- Emergence of new applications for pipe relining such as rehabilitation of sewer lines, which is expected to create new growth opportunities for the market in the near future
