Market Overview:
The global plastic injection molding for consumer electronics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in this market can be attributed to the increasing demand for plastic injection molded products from the medical, bio diagnostics, optical, packaging and electronics industries. In addition, the growing demand for lightweight and durable products is also contributing to the growth of this market. The global plastic injection molding for consumer electronics market can be segmented on the basis of type into COC (composite overmolding) and COP (composite overmolding). The COC segment is expected to account for a larger share of this market than the COP segment during the forecast period. On the basis of application, this market can be divided into medical devices & equipment, bio diagnostics & research instruments, optical components & devices, packaging applications and other applications such as automotive parts etc.
Product Definition:
Plastic injection molding is a process for manufacturing plastic parts by injecting molten plastic into a mold. The molten plastic is injected into the mold under high pressure, and the cooling of the plastic solidifies it in the desired shape. Plastic injection molding is commonly used to manufacture consumer electronics products, such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops. The process allows for complex shapes to be created with tight tolerances, and it can be used to produce large quantities of parts quickly and cheaply.
COC:
COC (Carbonate of Chloride) is a colorless and highly hygroscopic crystalline solid that is soluble in water, ethanol, and diethyl ether. It has the formula (ClCO3). COC can be produced by thermal decomposition or hydrolysis of various chlorides such as calcium chloride, sodium chloride solution, etc. The most commonly used source for COC production is calcium chloride which can be obtained from mines or chemical synthesis.
COP:
COP is short for cumulativeoperator and it is a tool that helps to calculate the total number of times a certain operation has been performed. It can be used in several applications such as in injection molding, extrusion, blow molding and also for plastic parts manufacturing. Injection molding is one of the processes where material (in this case plastic)is introduced into a machine (mold)and then after some time it comes out form other end as finished product.
Application Insights:
The packaging segment dominated the global plastic injection molding for consumer electronics market in 2017. The growth can be attributed to the high demand for durable and lightweight packaging solutions, especially in emerging economies such as China and India. In addition, factors such as increasing disposable income among consumers coupled with a rise in spending on luxury goods are expected to drive demand over the forecast period.
Electronics is one of the prominent applications of plastics within consumer electronic industry owing to properties such as flexibility and durability offered by these materials. Electronics molds are used extensively across several industries including medical equipment & devices manufacturing, telecommunication equipment manufacturing (specifically cordless phones), radio & television sets manufacturing along with other related products like headphones/earbuds or speakers among others.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 owing to the presence of a large number of electronics manufacturers in China and India. The region is expected to maintain its dominance over the forecast period due to increasing demand for consumer electronics, coupled with rising disposable income.
The Asia Pacific medical equipment industry is estimated to grow at a significant rate owing to increasing healthcare spending by governments as well as consumers, which will drive product demand over the coming years. In addition, favorable government policies such as 100% FDI allowed under automatic route are expected to boost medical equipment manufacturing in this region. This factor is also projectededto have a positive impact on regional growth during the forecast period (2018-2030).
North America accounted for more than 20% share of global revenue in 2017 and it was followed by Europe that accounted for nearly 19%. The U.S.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for plastic injection molded consumer electronics from developing countries owing to rising disposable income and changing lifestyle.
- Proliferation of new product categories in the consumer electronics market, which is leading to an increase in demand for plastic injection molded parts.
- Rapid technological advancements in the consumer electronics sector that are resulting in the development of innovative products, which require customized plastic components for manufacturing.
- Growing popularity of lightweight and compact electronic gadgets that necessitates use of plastics for molding smaller and intricate parts with high precision and detail accuracy.
