Market Overview:
The global radial tires market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for radial tires from the automotive sector, especially in developing countries. Additionally, the increasing demand for trucks and buses is also contributing to the growth of this market. The all-steel radial tire segment is expected to dominate the global radial tires market during the forecast period. This segment accounted for more than two-thirds of the total share in 2017 and is projected to maintain its dominance during 2018-2030 owing to its high durability and longer life span as compared with other types of radial tires available in the market.
Product Definition:
Radial tires are a type of pneumatic tire in which the cords that reinforce the sidewall are arranged in a radial pattern, perpendicular to the direction of travel. This arrangement results in a greater resistance to bending and twisting forces than bias ply tires. Radial tires also have a smaller diameter when inflated to the same pressure as bias ply tires, making them more responsive and giving them better fuel economy.
All - steel radial tires:
All-steel radial tires are the ones manufactured without using any alloys or steel cord in the carcass. The material used for manufacturing these tires is usually a polymer compound, which is then reinforced with metal. However, it can also be made of glass fibers and carbon fibers mixed with resin.
Semi - steel radial tires:
Semi - steel radial tires are used in radial tires market. Radial tire is a type of tire which is designed to replace the regular pneumatic tire by using the inner tube and carcass. The carcass of semi-steel radial consists of two ply sheets, one being rubber coated fabric and other being metalized fabric with steel wire embedded between them; whereas, the inner tube lies in between these two layers.
Application Insights:
The trucks application segment led the global radial tires market in 2017. Trucks are widely used for transporting goods and materials within a limited length, which requires high load capacity. The growing demand for heavy-duty vehicles is expected to drive the segment over the forecast period. Radial tires are also commonly known as rimmed tires owing to their structural design with a central metal rim encircling an inner rubber layer.
Radial tire advantages over other types of tires include higher load capacity, better performance on uneven roads and superior braking ability due to larger contact patches between tread and road surface. These benefits have encouraged several vehicle manufacturers across the world to use these products in their heavy-duty vehicle production lines including trucks, tractors, tankers and buses among others over recent years.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The presence of key players such as Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd., Bridgestone tires, and Michelin has resulted in high product penetration across this region. Furthermore, increasing demand for commercial vehicles coupled with favorable government regulations is likely to drive regional growth over the next eight years.
Europe was estimated at USD X billion in 2017.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for radial tires from the automotive sector
- Rising disposable income of consumers in developing countries
- Proliferation of online retail channels that offer discounts on radial tires
- Introduction of new and innovative products by tire manufacturers
- Growing awareness about the benefits of using radial tires among consumers
