Product Definition:


A railway pantograph is a device used by electric trains to draw power from overhead lines. It is a metal frame with a hinged arm at one end and a clamp at the other. The arm is fitted with a rubber pad that makes contact with the overhead wire. When the train passes under an overhead wire, current flows from the wire through the pantograph and into the train.


Pure Carbon Slider Type Pantograph:


Pure carbon sliders are made of single carbon fiber that is either pre-shaped or manufactured in a continuous sheet. It has high tensile strength and flexural modulus which makes it very stiff. Pure Carbon Slider Type Pantograph is used as an alternative to steel or aluminum sliders on rail vehicles such as railway pantographs, trolley cars, light rail vehicles and trams.


Metallic Carbon Slider Type Pantograph:


Metallic carbon sliders are used in pantographs to protect the electrical components and the train from high voltage. The metallic carbon layer provides extra insulation and acts as an insulator against electricity.


The product is manufactured using a special grade of pure tungsten carbide which has been processed so that only one side of the tungsten crystal is exposed, making it extremely hard.


Application Insights:


Electric locomotive was the largest application segment in 2017 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of XX% over the forecast period. The railway pantograph is used for drawing electric power from the railhead via an electric motor, which drives the train wheels through traction current supplied by Traction Current Collector (TCC). TCC acts as a transformer between direct current from locomotive battery and high-frequency alternating current required for driving trains.
