Reusable Sensor:


Reusable sensor is a device that is used for measuring the oxygen saturation level of blood in human body. The most commonly used sensors are pulse oximeters which are also known as hemoglobin sensors. These sensors work on the principle of oxidation and reduction of ferrous (Fe2+) and non-ferrous (non-metal) ions in blood by interfacing with oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin respectively.


Disposable Sensor:


Disposable sensors are used in oximeters to measure the oxygen saturation level of blood. They are available as a single-use or pre-filled disposable sensor, which is mounted on an adhesive substrate and fixed over the probe of an oximeter. The light from a normal LED or LCD display is shined on this sensor to obtain its response.


These sensors can be programmed using two methods; one is through software and other is through hardware (microcontroller).
