Market Overview:
The global rock drills market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for rock drills in mining and excavation applications, and rising investments in public works projects across the globe. The global rock drills market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the market is segmented into hydraulic rock drills, pneumatic rock drills, and gas-powered rock drills. Hydraulic Rock Drills are further sub-segmented into rotary drill rigs and percussion drill rigs while Pneumatic Rock Drills are further sub-segmented into air leg drilling rigs and handheld drilling rigs. Gas Powered Rock Drill Rig is further sub-segmented into engine powered drill rig & compressor powered drill rig segments On The Basis Of Application , Mining Is Expected To Hold A Larger Market Share Than Other Applications Such As Excavation And Public Work . Regionally , North America Is Expected To Dominate The Global Market In Terms Of Revenue Due To High Investments In Mining Activities .
Product Definition:
A rock drill is a tool used to excavate rocks, including drilling into the rock to create a hole for blasting.
Hydraulic:
Hydraulic is the force that is generated when a liquid is applied to the land surface and causes deformation of soil or rock. The main function of hydraulic equipment in mining industry, apart from providing comfort and safety to operators, is to enable extraction of minerals from mines by applying pressure on the extracted material. Hydraulic fracturing involves forcing water mixed with chemicals into shale beds at high pressure in order to break up shale deposits so that they can be mined more efficiently.
Pneumatic:
Pneumatic components are used in rock drills for the purpose of creating a vacuum and subsequently removing the drill cuttings. The pneumatic components consist of valves, nozzles, bags, and cylinders that are used to control the flow rate. The working principle behind it all is based on Pascal’s law which states that pressure x volume ratio will determine a substance’s mass or weight.
Application Insights:
The mining application segment accounted for the largest revenue share of over 40% in 2017. The growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for coal, copper, and other minerals from various end-use industries such as construction and electrical appliances. Moreover, rising demand for steel from infrastructure development activities is expected to augment the product demand in this segment over the forecast period.
The public work application segment is anticipated to witness a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period owing to extensive use of these products in road construction activities across countries such as India and China due to high traffic density on roads resulting in increased wear & tear on vehicles traveling on roads which necessitates frequent repairs & maintenance operations requiring large number of rocks broken into smaller pieces thereby making them easier to carry away resulting in higher product consumption at a lower cost per unit volume thus generating greater revenues for manufacturers over time.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region has been witnessing rapid growth in mining activities owing to various government initiatives such as “Make in Indiaâ€, which provides tax benefits for manufacturing units, and “One Belt One Road Initiative†(OBOR) by China. These factors are anticipated to drive the demand for rock drills across Asia Pacific over the forecast period.
North America accounted for a significant share of revenue on account of growing investments related to public works projects undertaken by governments of Mexico and Canada. For instance, according to World Bank data, total investment flow into Canada increased from USD X billion (equivalent to Indian Rupee Bond) between 2009-10 and 2014-15to USD X billion between 2015-16 and 2018-19 i ndicating an increase of 7%.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for rock drills from the construction and mining industries as a result of the growth in these sectors.
- Rising demand for smaller, more portable rock drills that can be used in tight spaces.
- The increasing use of hydraulic-powered rock drills, which are becoming more popular due to their high power and efficiency.
- Growing demand for electric-powered rock drills, especially in regions with stringent emissions regulations.
- Advances in drill bit technology that allow operators to achieve faster drilling speeds and longer life spans
